Reblogging to add that this goes for all characters ever, not just subeta pets

I’m not going to speak on behalf of the mentally ill, because I have no illness and it’s not really my place.  I will, however, speak on behalf of authors.

Because it is offensive, as a writer, to see other writers tacking on character traits without actually understanding them or doing the research.  Why do people think it is ok to do that.  That would be like writing a travel guide without ever visiting a place because it sounded nice.  Or writing a fanfic of a movie that you never saw.  You don’t do that.  Put in the time.
