Anonymous asked: Is Illuman based on anyone in real life? In fact, are any of your characters influenced by people you know?
Illuman is based on Superman, the Crimson Chin, and a lot of those scientists in comics whose science goes too far. I would say more characters are based on other works of fiction rather than people I know, though there are exceptions. A lot of Hal’s personality lines up with my own, and Cyrus is sort of based on a coworker of my mothers that she used to tell lots of stories about.
There was one story I had when I was younger where I based two kids on people I hated IRL and it turned kinda dumb so I’ve been trepid to add real people to my stories since.
Locations, though, is an entirely different story. Jigsaw’s classroom is drawn from photographs of a big lecture hall I’ve always liked. Probably more of my hometown will show up in the story because that’s what I can get reference pictures of.
